About The Watch:

The Seiko “Captain Willard” Ref 6105-8119 gets its name from the famed character played by Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now. The 6105 was commonly worn by GIs during the Vietnam War, which made its presence on screen authentic to the period in which the movie took place. Designed by Seiko in the 1960s as a divers tool, the 6105 featured a water resistance rating of 150 meters and a bi-directional rotating timing bezel.

The History:

Seiko began its rich history in 1881 when Kintaro Hattori opened a shop repairing and selling watches in central Tokyo. Eleven years later, he opened a factory called the Seikosha Factory and began building wall clocks, and later pocket watches. After an earthquake and fire destroyed the original factory, Hattori reopened with a new vision, which became the beginnings of what we know as Seiko today. A true pioneer in watchmaking, Seiko developed the first Japanese-made divers watch.

The Watch:

The Seiko Willard 6105-8119 features an asymmetrical stainless steel case measuring 46mm by 49.5mm with a Hardlex crystal. Powered by a Calibre 6105 movement, the Willard has a water resistance rating of 150 meters. The dial features a date window at the 3 o’clock position and the bezel is bi-directional rotating.

The Details:

This Seiko Willard 6105-8119 is in exceptional condition, appears to be unpolished, with wear on the case that is consistent with the age of this timepiece, and maintains the original case lines. The bezel insert is in excellent condition, with the lume pearl present, and retains its deep black color, with a scratch on the bezel insert at the 25-minute mark which is visible in the photographs. The matte black dial is in pristine condition, with no degradation of the lume in the hour markers or surrounds. The hands are in excellent condition, with lume present on the hour, minute and seconds hands. The locking crown mechanism works as designed.
