Fortis is one of the few watchmakers in the world that remains, to this day, an independent company with a rich history in Swiss watchmaking. Fortis was founded in 1912 by Walter Vogt. In 1926, Fortis, in collaboration with watch inventor John Harwood, introduced the first automatic watch to be put into production, thereby setting the stage for the emergence of many major brands on the market today, such as Rolex, Omega, and others. Later, in 1940, Fortis pioneered the way for one of the first water-resistant watches ever built.

The Fortis Flieger F-39 is powered by a Calibre UW-30 automatic movement with a bi-directional rotating rotor and has a 38-hour power reserve. Functions of the Flieger F-39 include hour, minute, and date. The Flieger F-39 has a 39mm brushed stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal and a bi-directional 12-hour bezel with 24-clicks. The F-39 has a water resistance rating to 200m. The matte black dial features a raised outer minutes ring with Fortis' signature Brixtrack lume plots for the hour markers, Arabic-style numerals, and Fortis' orange Synchroline highlight between the 11 and 1 o'clock positions, as well as a date window at the 3 o'clock position.
