Subtle changes to the dial design of the iconic IWC Big Pilot came with the 2006 release of the Ref 5004-01, including the omission of the number 9 on the dial and the numbers 2 and 4 being partially visible behind the power reserve indicator.  Initially released with an upgraded Caliber 51110 movement, the Ref 5004-01 maintains its predecessor’s iconic case shape, size, and onion-style crown.

The History:

Founded in 1868 by an American watchmaking pioneer, Florentine Ariosto Jones, the International Watch Company launched in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.  Nestled on the banks of the Rhine River, IWC’s factory
began its pursuit of manufacturing watches of the highest quality, utilizing modern technology and some of Switzerland’s most talented watchmakers.

The Watch:

The IWC Big Pilot Ref IW5004-01 features a 46.2mm stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal and a large onion-style crown.  The black dial features Arabic numerals with a power reserve indicator at the 3 o’clock
position and a date window at the 6 o’clock position.  Powered by the automatic Caliber 51110 movement, the Big Pilot Ref 5004-01 features a 7-day power reserve.

This IWC Big Pilot Ref 5004-01 includes the outer box sleeve, an IWC box, a back leather IWC watch case, and a brown IWC leather strap with a deployant clasp.
