The inspiration for the Hanhart 417 ES comes from the 417 Chronograph, which was initially produced between 1956 and 1958.  Designed for use by military pilots, the 417 quickly found a following among performance sports enthusiasts, thanks to the clear visibility of the dial layout, the 39mm case size, and the highly reliable shockproof and antimagnetic movements.  The most famous enthusiast of the 417 was none other than Steve McQueen, who wore his most frequently on a Bund strap.
