About the Watch:

Dating to 1947, this Vintage Omega Chronograph Ref 2439 has a beautiful 14K Gold case and the legendary Calibre 321 movement. With its 3-register silver dial, applied indices, applied Omega logo and applied numeral at the 12 o’clock position, the Ref 2439 is a classic dress piece with a timeless aesthetic.

The History:

The Omega Company was started by Louis Brandt in 1848, in Le Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland. Brandt’s sons would later expand the company and began to manufacture their own parts, including their first mass-produced caliber movement, the Labrador, in 1884. They continued their work, and a decade later, made the 19-line OMEGA caliber, which gave the company their name. After the turn of the century, Omega became the official timekeeper for several sporting events, which led to their eventual selection as the single timekeeper of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1932.

The Watch:

The Omega Chronograph 14K Yellow Gold Ref 2439 has a 35 mm 14K Yellow Gold case, with a domed acrylic crystal. The Silver dial has 3 registers, applied indices, as well as an applied Omega logo at the 12 o’clock position. A Tachymeter scale sits at the outer edge of the dial, with Dauphine-style hour and minute hands. Powered by the Calibre 321 movement, the Ref 2439 has a case height of 12mm, and a lug to lug width of 18 mm.

The Details:

This Omega Chronograph Ref 2439 is in very good condition. We have dated this piece to a production year of 1947. The case and lugs show some wear, visible in photos. The dial, hands, and indices have developed a patina, which is consistent with the age of the watch. The case back has a personalized engraving dating to 1956. The strap is tan leather with a gold tang-style buckle.
