The History:
Aquastar was launched in 1962 by Frederic Robert, an entrepreneur and dive enthusiast who desired to produce watches and other instruments for use in oceanic activities. Leading the way with groundbreaking patents for designs not yet found in dive watches of the time, including water-resistant crowns, inner rotating bezels, and “no decompression”
calculation bezels. Aquastar became known for purpose-built tool watches, which are uniquely designed and tailored to a diver’s needs.
The Watch:
The Aquastar Deepstar II features a 36.75mm stainless steel case with a highly domed sapphire crystal. The black dial features a sunburst pattern, with applied indices, a running seconds sub-dial at the 9 o’clock position, and an “old radium” colored SuperLuminova lume. The 120-click bezel features a successive/multiple dive non-decompression table calculator following the French Navy dive tables. Powered by a
Sellita SW-290 movement, the Deepstar II has a 38-hour power reserve and a water resistance rating of 200 meters.
The Details:
This Aquastar Deepstar II is number 635 of 900 produced with the black dial. This timepiece includes the outer and inner boxes, the warranty card, an additional black NATO strap with an Aquastar stainless steel buckle, and the original Aquastar “beads of rice” style stainless steel bracelet.
