About This Watch:

The Breitling Navitimer is one of the most iconic timepieces ever produced. Designed as a pilots’ tool, the 806 features innovations such as an internal rotating bezel, offering a slide rule for navigation computations, long before electronics were available in the cockpit. The 806 with an AOPA dial stands out, as this iteration features the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association logo at the 12 o’clock position in lieu of the Breitling logo.

The History: Breitling was established in 1884 by watchmaker Léon Breitling. His patented chronograph designs quickly gained popularity in industrial, military, and scientific markets. Their innovative designs, technology, and reputation for reliability and functionality continue to make Breitling a mainstay in the watchmaking world today.

The Watch: The Breitling Navitimer 806 features a 40mm stainless steel case with a Plexiglas crystal. The case dates to the production year of 1964, based on the serial number. The 806 is powered by a Breitling-signed Venus Calibre 178 movement, stamped “WOG” by the Wakkman Watch Company, the US Importer for Breitling during that time. The black dial features the AOPA logo in gilt at the 12 o’clock position, with three silver-colored sub-registers at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions.

The Details: This 1964 Breitling Navitimer 806 AOPA dial is in good condition with sharp case lines still intact and some wear present on the case and lugs, which is consistent with a timepiece of this age. The hour markers and hands have been relumed on this timepiece and glow. This timepiece comes with a Breitling black leather strap with white stitching and a stainless steel Breitling tang-style buckle.
