The Fortis Spacematic Ref. 6086 is a distinctive vintage tool watch from the 1960s, developed as part of Fortis’ early connection to space exploration. Featuring a robust stainless steel case, automatic 21-jewel movement, and the period-correct “AR” (All Risks) designation, the Spacematic was designed to withstand demanding conditions and temperature fluctuations. With its utilitarian character and pioneering space-era heritage, the Ref. 6086 remains a compelling example of Fortis’ early technical watchmaking.

  • The History:

Fortis is one of the few watchmakers in the world that remains, to this day, an independent company with a rich history in Swiss watchmaking. Walter Vogt founded Fortis in 1912. In 1926, Fortis, in collaboration with watch inventor John Harwood, introduced the first automatic watch into production, setting the stage for the emergence of many major brands on the market today, such as Rolex, Omega, and others. Later, in 1940, Fortis pioneered the way for one of the first water-resistant watches ever built.

  • The Watch:

The Fortis Spacematic Ref 6086 features a 34mm stainless steel case with an acrylic crystal.  The dial features applied indices, the “ar” designation at the 9 o’clock position, and a date window at the 3 o’clock position.  An ETA 2452 21-jewel automatic movement powers the Spacematic.
