About This Watch:

The Fortis Flieger Cockpit Ref 595.11.14 has a vintage aesthetic, reminiscent of early Flieger pilot watches, but powered by a modern ETA 2824-2 movement. The dial features a small center hour dial surrounded by a two-color yellow and black minute dial, making the Flieger Cockpit easy to read under adverse lighting conditions.

The History: While Fortis is a known name to horological enthusiasts and watch collectors, their name might now be as familiar to all. Fortis is one of the few watchmakers in the world that remains, to this day, independent despite its rich history in Swiss watchmaking. Fortis was founded in 1912 by Walter Vogt. In 1926 Fortis, in collaboration with watch inventor, John Harwood, created the first automatic watch to be put into production, thus setting the stage for the likes of many major brands we see on the market today, such as Rolex, Omega, and more. Later, in 1940, Fortis pioneered the way for one of the first water-resistant watches ever built.

The Watch: The Fortis Flieger Cockpit Ref 595.11.14 features a 40mm brushed stainless steel case with a fixed bezel and a sapphire crystal. Powered by an automatic ETA 2824.2 movement, the Flieger Cockpit features a 200-meter water resistance rating. The Ref 595.11.14 features an outer two-color minute dial, with the top half in black and the bottom half in yellow. The yellow inner dial features the 12-hour counter, with the Fortis logo under the 12 o’clock position. The hour and minute hands are a lumed sword-style, with a baton seconds hand and a date window at the 3 o’clock position.

The Details: This Fortis Flieger Cockpit Ref 595.11.14 is a pre-owned timepiece with some minor wear on the case and bezel, which is visible in the photographs. This timepiece comes with a black Fortis leather strap and a stainless steel tang-style buckle.
