About This Watch:

The iconic design of the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso harkens back to the 1930s when polo players complained of their timepiece crystals being damaged or broken while playing. Jaeger LeCoultre came up with the idea and subsequently patented the Reverso design to flip the watch face to a solid back to protect the crystal. Several updates to the Reverso design include the Duo-Face feature, which allows for two watch faces on either side of the ribbon case which can display two different timezones.

The History: Jaeger LeCoultre began its start in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre in Le Sentier, Switzerland. Antoine had invented a machine to cut watch pinions and later developed what was considered to be the world's most accurate measuring instrument, the Millionométre. In 1903, a challenge was introduced to Swiss watchmakers by Edmond Jaeger to successfully produce an ultra-thin movement designed by Jaeger. Antoine LeCoultre’s grandson accepted that challenge and in 1907, produced the thinnest pocket watch movement, which led to the eventual founding of Jaeger LeCoultre.

The Watch: The Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Ref 270.2.54 features a 26mm x 42mm 18ct Rose Gold case with a manual-wind Caliber 854/1 movement. The art deco design of the Duo-Face “Day” side dial features a silver Guilloché central dial, a brushed outer dial with large Arabic numerals in black, and a sub-dial with a small seconds register. The hour, minute, and seconds hands are blued on the “Day” dial. The “Night” side of the dial, also inspired by art deco design, features a black guilloché center dial with lumed Arabic numeral at the 12, 3, and 9 o’clock positions and a 24-hour GMT dial at the 6 o’clock position.

The Details: This Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Rose Gold Duo-Face Day-Night Ref 270.2.54 shows some wear on the case that is consistent with the age of this watch and is visible in the photographs. There is an engraving of the number 33 from the original owner on the case back. This timepiece comes with an aftermarket black leather strap with buckle.
