About This Watch:
The last of the GMT Master series produced by Rolex, the Ref 16700, ushered in a series of updates to the model, including introducing a sapphire crystal, applied white gold indexes, and the use of the Calibre 3175 movement. The GMT 16700 was produced from 1988 until 1999 when the model gave way to the GMT Master II.
The History: The Rolex brand needs no introduction. Founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law, Alfred Davis, these visionary men set out to do what had not been successfully and reliably done before. Wilsdorf’s dream was to create a watch that could accompany its owner through all facets of life and withstand any environment.
