Seiko began its rich history in 1881, when Kintaro Hattori opened a shop in central Tokyo to repair and sell watches.  Eleven years later, he established the Seikosha Factory and began manufacturing wall clocks and pocket watches.  After an earthquake and fire destroyed the original factory, Hattori reopened with a new vision, marking the beginning of what is now known as Seiko.  A true pioneer in watchmaking, Seiko developed the first Japanese-made divers’ watch.

The Seiko SPB179 features a 45mm stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal, a crown at the 4 o’clock position, and a unidirectional rotating bezel with a blue insert.  The textured blue dial features applied lumed indices and a date window at the 3 o’clock position with a magnifier in the crystal.  Powered by the automatic Seiko Caliber 6R35 movement, the SPB179 has a 70-hour power reserve and a water resistance rating of 200 meters.
