The History:
Angelus Watch Company was founded in 1891 by the Stolz brothers in Le Locle, Switzerland. Initially focused on repeater and alarm watches, gaining recognition for their craftsmanship and accuracy. Angelus became a leader in chronograph production, notably with the Chronodato in 1942, the first serially produced wristwatch chronograph featuring a calendar. Later, in 1948, the Chrono-Dato Luxe was introduced, marking the first big date in a chronograph.
The Watch:
This Angelus Chronograph features a 36mm stainless steel case with flat brass-plated chronograph pushers, a domed acrylic crystal, and a signed case back. The dial has developed a cream-colored patina and features a blue telemeter scale at the outer edge of the dial, sub-dials at the 3 and 6 o’clock positions, and a blue handset, of which the hour and minute hands have been relumed at some point. This Angelus Chronograph is powered by the in-house Caliber 215 movement, with a signed bridge.
The Details:
This vintage Angelus Chronograph, featuring a Cal. 215 movement, has a case that appears to be unpolished, with wear consistent with a timepiece of its age. Patina has developed on the dial and lume on the numerals. The hour and minute hands appear to have been relumed at some point. Included with this timepiece is an aftermarket blue canvas and leather strap with a stainless steel buckle.
