  • The History:

Fortis is one of the few watchmakers in the world that remains, to this day, an independent company with a rich history in Swiss watchmaking. Fortis was founded in 1912 by Walter Vogt. In 1926, Fortis, in collaboration with watch inventor John Harwood, introduced the first automatic watch to be put into production, thereby setting the stage for the emergence of many major brands on the market today, such as Rolex, Omega, and others. Later, in 1940, Fortis pioneered the way for one of the first water-resistant watches ever built.

  • The Watch:

The Fortis D4031U features a 34mm chrome-plated brass case with a domed acrylic crystal and a solid signed case back.  The black dial features an outer railroad-style minute track with large Arabic numerals, a syringe-style hour and minute hand, and a small seconds register at the 6 o’clock position.  The D4031U is powered by the A.Schild Caliber AS1130 manual-wind movement, found in many of the WWII-era military timepieces.

  • The Details:

This vintage Fortis D4031U timepiece includes an aftermarket olive green fabric strap with a stainless steel buckle.
