About This Watch:

Sporty and elegant, this vintage Waltham Chronograph, powered by the formidable Landeron Calibre 248 movement, features a Carrera-style stainless steel case and a unique silver sunburst pattern dial. With angular lugs and a domed acrylic crystal, this 1960s Waltham Chronograph is an excellent example of a mid-century sports timing watch.

The History: The Waltham Watch Company was founded in the United States in 1850 and continued to produce timepieces, clocks, compasses and other instruments through1957. The company built a manufacturing plant in Waltham, Massachusetts, that has been preserved as the American Waltham Watch Company Historic District. Leaving the consumer watch market in 1957, the company moved to Chicago and built a new production facility in Neuchatel, Switzerland in 1962. By 1968, the company changed hands and was sold to the Invicta Watch Company of Switzerland.

The Watch: This vintage Waltham Chronograph features a 37mm stainless steel case with an acrylic crystal and a solid stainless steel case back. This timepiece features a Landeron Calibre 248 17-jewel movement. The dial is silver, with a distinct sunburst pattern and two sub-registers at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. The metallic hour markers are rectangular shaped, with tritium lume plots along the outer tachymeter scale of the dial. The hour and minute hands are baton-shaped and filled with tritium lume.

The Details: This vintage Waltham Chronograph is in very good condition. The case, lugs and fixed bezel show some wear, consistent with the age of this timepiece and visible in the photographs. The lume plots on the dial and hands have developed patina. This timepiece comes with an olive green canvas strap with a tang-style buckle.
