About This Watch:

Inspired by the 1960s Cairelli chronograph, the Zenith Heritage Cronometro Tipo CP2 has a limited production run of 1000 timepieces. The original CP2 was designed for A. Cairelli, who was the Rome-based distributor for several brands in the 60s, including Zenith. Utilized by the Italian Air Force through the late 1970s, the Cairelli chronographs were originally powered by a manual wind Caliber DP 146 movement. The Zenith Heritage Cronometro Tipo CP2 features the automatic El Primero 4069 movement.

The History: If not for the foresight of Charles Vermot, there would be no modern Zenith El Primero movements today. The company was sold and made the move to manufacturing quartz-based movement timepieces. After being ordered to sell the metal materials, including the dies, machining tools & presses, Vermot chose to hide everything needed to restart production on the El Primero movement inside the factory in a loft area. When Zenith was approached by Rolex years later to produce a mechanical automatic chronograph movement for their Daytona model, Vermot had everything needed to begin production. Shortly after, Zenith began producing its own mechanical watches again using this magnificent movement.

The Watch: The Zenith Heritage Cronometro Tipo CP2 features a polished 43mm stainless steel case with a sapphire crystal. The bidirectional rotating bezel has a 60-minute scale with a lumed triangle marker at the “60” position. The black dial features lumed Arabic numerals, two registers at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions, an applied star for the Zenith logo above the text at the 12 o’clock position, and pencil-shaped hour and minute hands. The Heritage Cronometro Tipo CP2 is powered by the El Primero 4069 automatic movement with a 50-hour power reserve and a beat frequency of 36,000 A/h.

The Details: This Zenith Heritage Cronometro Tipo CP2 is in very good condition, with some visible wear on the backside of the lugs from strap changes, which can be seen in the photographs. This timepiece is numbered 581 out of 1000 produced. Included are the inner and outer boxes, outer sleeve, quick step guide, owners manual, leather card holder, warranty card, service program card, leather hang tag, movement, reference number stickers, and the brown alligator leather Zenith strap with stainless steel deployant Zenith clasp.
